Manuel Bretón de los Herreros (Quel, La Rioja, 1796 - Madrid, 1873) was a Spanish playwright, poet, and journalist, a prominent figure of Romanticism. From a young age, he dedicated himself to literature, cultivating a costumbrista and satirical style. He is known for his more than one hundred comedies, among them "Marcela o ¿cuál de los tres?", "A Madrid me vuelvo", and "Muérete ¡y verás!". He was a member of the Real Academia Española and director of the Teatro Español.
