Luis de Granada (Granada, 1504 – Lisbon, December 31, 1588) was a Spanish Dominican friar, ascetic writer, and mystic of the Renaissance. He studied at the College of San Gregorio in Valladolid and became a priest. He dedicated himself to preaching and writing spiritual works that achieved widespread dissemination, especially the "Book of Prayer and Meditation" and the "Guide for Sinners". He was a confessor to John III of Portugal and an influential theologian, although some of his works were temporarily censored. His thought combined scholastic theology with a profound mystical spirituality, seeking the union of the soul with God. He is considered one of the great masters of Spanish mysticism.
