Veronica Roth is an American fantasy and science fiction writer, known primarily for her dystopian young adult series, Divergent. She was born on August 19, 1988, in New York and grew up in Barrington, Illinois. She studied creative writing at Northwestern University. She published the first book of the trilogy, Divergent, in 2011 while still in college, becoming a bestseller and being adapted into a film. She continued the series with Insurgent (2012) and Allegiant (2013). She has also written other works such as the Carve the Mark series.
