Herbert Warren Wind (1916-2005) was an American sportswriter and author, widely regarded as one of the greatest golf writers of all time. A graduate of Yale and Cambridge, he began his career at Sports Illustrated and is best known for his extensive writings for The New Yorker, where he was a golf columnist for over 40 years. His writings were characterized by his elegant prose, deep knowledge of the game and its history, and his ability to capture the essence of tournaments and their protagonists. He was the first to use the term "Amen Corner" to describe a series of crucial holes at the Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters. His work has been compiled into several books, including "The Complete Golfer" and "Following Through." Wind was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008.
