About the author Alexander Charles Ewald:

Alexander Charles Ewald (1842-1891) was a British historian and public official. He was born in Hampstead, London, and was the son of Heinrich Ewald, a well-known Hebraist and professor in Göttingen. Alexander Ewald was educated at King's College London and subsequently worked as a senior clerk at the National Archives (Public Record Office). He is known for several historical works, including "Life and Times of Prince Charles Stuart" (1875), "Stories from the State Papers" (1881), "The Rt. Hon. Benjamin Disraeli and his Times" (1884), and "Paper and Parchment" (1890). His work at the National Archives provided him access to a vast quantity of historical documents which he used for his research. He died at the age of 49.
