Leslie Stephen (November 28, 1832 – February 22, 1904) was an English literary critic, historian, essayist, biographer, and mountaineer. He was the editor of the Dictionary of National Biography and a prominent Victorian intellectual. He was the father of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell. Stephen was also one of the first to advocate for an agnostic approach in philosophy, influencing the secular thought of his time.
