Synopsis

The presence of children with restless behaviors and difficulties in maintaining attention during learning processes is not a recent phenomenon; these characteristics have accompanied childhood throughout history, being approached from various perspectives. However, what is truly distinctive today lies in the transformation of contemporary mentality, which is characterized by constant acceleration and a conception of time that prioritizes immediacy, minimizing the relevance of waiting, reflection, and the time necessary for deep knowledge assimilation. In this context, this work aims to highlight the critical relevance of subjectivity in the comprehensive understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Firstly, the subjectivity of the current era is emphasized, deeply marked by the culture of speed, efficiency, and rapid information consumption, which directly influences how certain child behaviors are perceived, categorized, and diagnosed. Secondly, the inherent subjectivity of individuals diagnosed with ADHD is stressed, whose moving bodies or scattered minds are not merely a set of isolated symptoms, but a particular expression of complex and multifaceted discomforts that are rooted in highly varied personal, family, and social situations, and that require careful interpretation beyond the label. Finally, emphasis is placed on the subjectivity of professionals involved in addressing ADHD, both educators and clinicians, who cannot be considered neutral and objective observers, but active agents whose own perspectives, training, experiences, and cultural frameworks shape interaction, evaluation, and diagnosis, inextricably integrating into the very scenario where they interact with patients or students.
