Lorenzo Montúfar y Rivera (1823-1898) was a prominent Guatemalan politician, jurist, diplomat, historian, and journalist. He studied law and became a key figure in Central American liberalism, opposing the conservative regime of Rafael Carrera. He held important positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Public Instruction in Guatemala and was ambassador to several countries. He is known for his monumental historical work "Reseña histórica de Centroamérica" (Historical Review of Central America), which covers the period from independence to the end of the 19th century, and for his defense of Central American union.
