Synopsis

"This is the book on K-pop everybody has been waiting for.…A must-read!" declares Charlotte Naudin, PR Manager for Torpedo Productions. K-Pop Now! offers an in-depth examination of Korea's high-energy pop music, crafted specifically for its ever-growing legions of passionate fans across the globe. Esteemed pop culture expert Mark Russell leads readers on an insightful journey, featuring the most famous groups and charismatic singers while providing an unparalleled insider's look into the intricate processes and dedication that have propelled them to the pinnacle of success. While Psy's sensational song and music video "Gangnam Style" undoubtedly captured the world's attention in 2012, K-Pop, the vibrant musical export from Psy's homeland of Korea, had been winning hearts and building a formidable fanbase with its infectious melodies, meticulously choreographed performances, and electrifying high-energy fun long before that viral moment. Characterized by its exceptionally talented vocalists and dancers, combined with visually captivating aesthetics and innovative production, K-Pop stands as the definitive music of the moment, continually pushing cultural boundaries. Although K-Pop's widespread recognition in Western territories is a relatively recent phenomenon, its momentum is accelerating rapidly, reaching significantly larger and more diverse audiences. This exponential growth is largely facilitated by the transformative power of social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, which allow for instant global dissemination and fan engagement; for instance, the Girls Generation single "Gee" alone has garnered almost three hundred million views, illustrating the genre's massive digital footprint. K-Pop Now! encompasses a wealth of detailed content, including comprehensive profiles of current K-Pop artists and a deep dive into their chart-topping hits. It also offers an exclusive look at Seoul's trendiest hangout spots, revealing where K-Pop culture is born and thrives. The book features candid interviews with top artists such as Kevin from Ze:A and Brian Joo from Fly to the Sky, offering personal insights into their careers and the industry. Readers will also gain fascinating foresight into the K-Pop idols of tomorrow, alongside introductions to the biggest record producers shaping the sound of the genre and the popular hosts of the insanely successful "Eat Your Kimchi" website, key figures in the K-Pop digital landscape. The comprehensive coverage spans a wide array of influential K-Pop groups, from legendary pioneers like HOT, SES, and FinKL, to contemporary powerhouses such as Big Bang, TVXQ, 2NE1, Girls Generation, Busker Busker, and The Koxx, showcasing the rich evolution of the genre. Furthermore, for dedicated fans planning an immersive journey, the book includes an indispensable guide to visiting Seoul, enabling them to explore the K-Pop phenomenon up close and personal. Join the K-Pop revolution and discover its captivating world today.
