About the author Fermín Caballero:

Fermín Caballero y Morgáez (Barajas de Melo, Cuenca, July 7, 1800 - Madrid, June 17, 1876) was a Spanish politician, journalist, geographer, and writer. He studied Law and was a professor of Geography and Statistics at the Central University of Madrid. He stood out for his progressive and liberal thinking, serving as a deputy on several occasions and as Minister of Interior in 1840. He was a promoter of the ecclesiastical disentailment. He founded and collaborated with several liberal newspapers such as El Eco del Comercio. Among his geographical works are "Manual de Geografía y Descripción de España" (Manual of Geography and Description of Spain) and "Fomento de la población rural" (Promotion of Rural Population). He also wrote on political and economic topics. His figure is key to understanding 19th-century Spanish liberalism.
