Henrik Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright, theatre director, and poet. He is considered the "father of realism" and one of the most influential figures in the history of modern theatre. His most well-known works include A Doll's House, Hedda Gabler, Ghosts, and An Enemy of the People. He was born in Skien in 1828 and died in Oslo in 1906.
