Pedro de Ribadeneyra (1526-1611) was a Spanish Jesuit, historian, and hagiographer. He was born in Toledo and joined the Society of Jesus in 1540. He was a disciple and biographer of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. He studied in Paris, Louvain, and Padua, and taught rhetoric in Rome. His most well-known work is the "Life of Saint Ignatius of Loyola," one of the earliest and most influential biographies of the saint. He also wrote about other saints and topics in ecclesiastical history, standing out for his defense of the Counter-Reformation. He died in Madrid.
