Temple Scott is the pseudonym of J. P. Mowbray (pseudonym of John P. Mowbray), who was also known for his work as an editor and critic. He was born on August 18, 1861, in Greenock, Scotland, and passed away on September 19, 1939. He emigrated to the United States in 1891. Scott was the editor of the American edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica and literary editor for the publishing house E.P. Dutton. He is also known for his work in publishing a popular edition of the works of Jonathan Swift. In addition to his editorial work, Scott was an author and literary critic in his own right. His work as "Temple Scott" often focused on themes of literature and criticism.
