Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière, was a French playwright, actor, and theatre director, considered one of the great masters of comedy. He was born in Paris in 1622 and died in 1673. He founded L'Illustre Théâtre in 1643 and, after years of provincial tours, returned to Paris and became the protégé of Louis XIV. His works, such as "Tartuffe", "The Misanthrope", and "The Miser", are famous for their social satire and critique of human vices.
