Synopsis

The bleak and remote Grim Wolds in England provide a fittingly desolate backdrop for Ensor House, where Winifred Notty arrives with the firm intention of embodying the perfect, unflappable governess. Her initial resolve, however, swiftly begins to fray amidst the estate's oppressive confines. Meanwhile, Mrs. Pounds, a woman of chilling sadism, takes an almost sensual pleasure in devising and inflicting cruel punishments upon Winifred, ostensibly as retribution for her husband's roving eye, but truly as an outlet for her own malice. These daily torments, coupled with Winifred's seething disdain for the insufferably entitled and spoiled Pounds children, push her to the brink. She finds herself constantly struggling to stifle the violent, dark compulsions that have plagued her past, threatening to resurface with brutal force. Yet, a chilling calm underlies her growing desperation. Patience, Winifred silently affirms, is paramount.
