Synopsis

Discover the acclaimed epic fantasy universe of Patrick Rothfuss’s #1 New York Times-bestselling series, The Kingkiller Chronicle, through this beautifully illustrated companion novella, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. This standalone tale offers a unique insight into a corner of Rothfuss's richly imagined world, a world so captivating that even Lin-Manuel Miranda declares, “I just love the world of Patrick Rothfuss.” Far beneath the hallowed halls of the University lies a hidden, shadowy domain known only to a select few. It is a labyrinthine expanse of ancient, crumbling passageways and long-forgotten, abandoned rooms—a vast, broken web often referred to as the Underthing. Within this sprawling, subterranean realm, nestled securely in the very heart of this forgotten place, resides a solitary young woman. Her name is Auri, and her existence is cloaked in profound mystery. The Slow Regard of Silent Things presents a poignant and brief, yet deeply bittersweet, exploration of Auri's peculiar life, detailing a small, deeply personal adventure entirely her own. Simultaneously imbued with moments of quiet joy and an underlying sense of haunting solitude, this narrative invites readers to experience the world through Auri’s unique perception, revealing truths and secrets that only she, in her solitude, has come to know. In this masterfully crafted novella, Patrick Rothfuss intricately draws us into the inner world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle's most compelling and enigmatic characters. Replete with untold secrets and profound mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things unfolds as the moving story of a seemingly broken girl striving to forge an existence within a world that, in its own way, is just as fractured.
