Synopsis

A country suffocated by the silence of the post-war era. An ancient mystery that, nevertheless, still breathes in the air. A profound family drama unfolds in this context. Sofía comes into the world in the harsh autumn of 1939, just after a family tragedy that leaves an indelible mark. Her childhood takes place in remote rural Galicia, a place where secrets, like thick fog, envelop every aspect of her life. Her paternal grandparents, protective but severe, raise her under strict and constant vigilance. Meanwhile, her father, an erudite librarian condemned to live hidden in the shadows, nourishes her imagination with fascinating fantasy stories, a refuge from the harsh reality. Sofía cannot grasp the true nature of what her family hides from her, nor the meaning of that enigmatic girl who appears to her recurrently, an apparition that borders on hallucination and sows confusion. A twist of fate leads her to be admitted to the imposing Hospital Real de Santiago. Against all odds, there she finds an unexpected refuge in Julia, who becomes her first and most cherished friend. In the labyrinthine and silent corridors of the hospital, steeped in history, clandestine traces of a long-buried past begin to emerge, promising to unveil increasingly complex and personal mysteries. And then, what role does that young man with green eyes play, who has burst into her life, seeming to possess not only deep knowledge but also the longed-for answers Sofía seeks? This novel delves into the immense power of imagination as a protective shield against horror and devastation, and into the redemptive power of love as the last and most persistent hope. Because, even in the darkest and most desperate passages of existence, a great story has the capacity to save us, to offer us a path.
