Felipe Poey y Aloy (1799-1891) was a Cuban zoologist and naturalist, considered a prominent figure in 19th-century Cuban science. He was born in Havana. He specialized in ichthyology, describing and classifying numerous species of fish from Cuba and the Caribbean. He was the founder of the Havana Museum of Natural History and a professor of zoology at the University of Havana. His work "Ictiología Cubana" is a fundamental reference in the study of the region's marine fauna.
