Miguel Ángel Asturias (1899-1974) was a Guatemalan writer, journalist, and diplomat. He studied law and anthropology, influences that are reflected in his work. A central figure in Latin American literature and a precursor of magical realism, his narrative addresses themes such as indigenous identity, social injustice, and dictatorship. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1967. His best-known works include "El Señor Presidente", "Hombres de maíz" (Men of Maize), and "Leyendas de Guatemala" (Legends of Guatemala).
