Manuel de la Revilla was a Spanish writer and literary critic born in 1846 in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, and who died in 1881 in Madrid. He studied Law at the Central University of Madrid and was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy from 1880. He collaborated in various periodical publications of the time such as La España and Revista de España, where he published numerous articles, reviews, and essays on literature, history, and art. He was one of the leading critics of his time, defending realism and naturalism in literature and analyzing the work of authors such as Galdós, Pereda, and Valera. Among his works, Colección de artículos críticos (1875) and Últimos escritos (1881) stand out, which compile a large part of his critical output. His premature death prevented him from fully developing his promising career.
