Armando Discépolo was an Argentine playwright and theater director, born in Buenos Aires in 1887. He is considered one of the main exponents of "grotesco criollo," a theatrical genre he himself developed, which combines elements of tragedy and comedy to reflect the social and psychological reality of immigration in Argentina. His works, such as "Babilonia," "Stéfano," "Mustafá," and "Mateo," explore themes like frustration, hypocrisy, the struggle for survival, and cultural alienation. He was the brother of the also renowned playwright and composer Enrique Santos Discépolo. Armando Discépolo passed away in Buenos Aires in 1971.
