Lady Isabel Burton (née Arundell, 1831-1896) was an English writer, translator, and explorer. She is primarily known for being the wife and traveling companion of explorer and orientalist Sir Richard Francis Burton, whom she accompanied on many of his expeditions. Isabel was a devout Catholic and an influential figure in managing her husband's literary reputation, publishing her own works and also serving as his literary executor after his death, a task that included the controversial burning of some of his unpublished manuscripts, deeming them too scandalous. Her works include "The Inner Life of Syria, Palestine, and the Holy Land" and a biography of her husband, "The Life of Captain Sir Richard F. Burton".
