Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla (Toledo, October 4, 1607 - Madrid, January 23, 1660) was a Spanish playwright of the Golden Age. He studied at the University of Toledo and later in Salamanca, although it is not known if he completed his studies. He settled in Madrid where he dedicated himself to theater. He was a prolific author of comedies, some of which were performed at court. His work is characterized by originality in plots, the creation of strong female characters, and the development of the comedy of intrigue and honor. Among his best-known works are Del rey abajo, ninguno, Cada cual lo que le toca, and Entre bobos anda el juego. He maintained friendships with other great writers of his time such as Calderón de la Barca and Tirso de Molina. He was appointed Knight of the Order of Santiago in 1644.
