Spanish lawyer, writer, and politician (Cádiz, 1789-Madrid, 1865). Son of Dionisio Alcalá Galiano, hero of Trafalgar. He was a prominent figure in 19th-century Spanish liberalism. He was exiled in London during the absolutist restoration of Ferdinand VII (1823-1833), where he deepened his knowledge of Anglo-Saxon culture. Upon his return, he held important political positions, serving as a deputy, Minister of Public Works (1836), Minister of the Navy (1840), and Minister of Grace and Justice (1864). He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy since 1833. His literary work includes memoirs, speeches, and articles, notably "Memoirs of a Septuagenarian" and "Memories of an Old Man".
