Luis Cabrera de Córdoba

Luis Cabrera de Córdoba (Madrid, 1559-1623) was a Spanish historian, royal chronicler, humanist, and scholar. He graduated in Law from the University of Salamanca and was appointed chronicler to King Philip II in 1595, a position he held under Philip III and Philip IV. His most notable work is "Historia de Felipe II, Rey de España" (History of Philip II, King of Spain), published posthumously in 1619, although printing began in 1619. He also wrote "De historia para entenderla y escribirla" (On history for understanding and writing it) and other historical and genealogical texts. He is valued for his meticulousness in the use of documentary sources and his clear style, although his work often reflects a perspective favorable to the monarchy.
