Matthew Lipman (1923-2010) was a philosopher, educator, and the founder of the Philosophy for Children (P4C) movement. He was born in New York and obtained his doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University. He was a professor at Columbia University and later at Montclair State University in New Jersey. There, he developed the P4C curriculum, which seeks to foster critical, creative, and caring thinking in children through philosophical dialogue in a community of inquiry. He wrote several philosophical novels and teacher manuals, profoundly influencing global pedagogy.
