Miguel de Manuel y Rodriguez

Miguel de Manuel y Rodríguez was a Spanish jurist, humanist, librarian, journalist, and playwright born in Oviedo in 1747 and died in Madrid in 1819. He studied Law at the University of Oviedo, where he later held the Chair of Royal Law Institutions. Throughout his career, he held important positions, such as prosecutor of the Inquisition, chief librarian of the Royal Library of Madrid (predecessor of the National Library of Spain), and dean of the Council of the Indies. He was a prolific writer, author of legal, historical, and literary works. His publications include legal treatises, legislative compilations, and theatrical pieces. He is considered a relevant figure of the Spanish Enlightenment.
