Pierre Grimal

Pierre Grimal (1912-2000) was an eminent French Latinist and historian, specializing in ancient Roman civilization. He graduated from the École Normale Supérieure and was a member of the École française de Rome. A professor at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne and a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, Grimal is known for his numerous works that popularized the study of Rome and its culture, including biographies of Roman figures, studies on mythology and daily life, and translations of classical authors. His work was characterized by great erudition combined with accessible prose, which made him a reference for both academics and the general public interested in Roman Antiquity.
