Rafael María Baralt (Maracaibo, 1810 - Madrid, 1860) was a Venezuelan writer, journalist, historian, philologist, and diplomat. He is known for his "Resumen de la historia de Venezuela" and for being the author of the first dictionary of gallicisms. He was the first Hispanic American to join the Royal Spanish Academy.
