Roger Painvin

Roger Painvin was a French military officer, known for his role in intelligence and cryptography during World War I. As a captain in the French Deuxième Bureau, he succeeded in deciphering the German ADFGX cipher in 1918, providing vital information to counter the German Spring Offensive. His work on this cipher was so significant that it is sometimes known as the "Painvin cipher". He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and named an officer of the Légion d'honneur.
