Salvador de Madariaga

Salvador de Madariaga (1886-1978) was a Spanish diplomat, writer, historian, and essayist. He worked at the League of Nations, was a professor at Oxford, and served as ambassador for the Second Spanish Republic in the United States and France, as well as Minister of Justice and Education. A prolific author in Spanish, English, and French, he went into exile after the Spanish Civil War and was a staunch defender of democracy and European integration.
