Theodor Wolf

Theodor Wolf was a German naturalist and geologist known for his expeditions and studies in South America, especially in Ecuador. He was born on February 15, 1841, in Eisleben, Germany, and passed away on June 22, 1924, in Dresden. He arrived in Ecuador in 1870, where he taught geology and mineralogy at the Polytechnic School of Quito and dedicated himself to scientific research. He is remembered for his "Geografía y Geología del Ecuador," published in 1892, a fundamental work for the geographical and geological knowledge of the country. Furthermore, he was the discoverer of the Galápagos Islands and named several species. He was a pioneer in the research of volcanology and seismology in the Andean region.
