Arthur Posnansky

Arthur Posnansky was an Austro-Hungarian-Bolivian engineer, explorer, historian, and archaeologist. He is mainly known for his studies on the Tiwanaku civilization in Bolivia, in the early 20th century. His research included excavations, astronomical measurements of the ruins, and theories about the antiquity and origin of this pre-Inca culture. He was a proponent of the hypothesis that Tiwanaku was one of the oldest civilizations on the American continent and that its dating was much more remote than believed in his time. He also founded the Geographical Society of La Paz and the Tiwanaku Museum.
