Torquato Tasso was an Italian Renaissance poet, born in Sorrento in 1544. He is mainly known for his epic poem "Gerusalemme liberata" (Jerusalem Delivered), which narrates a fictionalized version of the First Crusade. His life was marked by mental health issues and periods of confinement. He died in Rome in 1595.
