Washington Irving

Washington Irving (1783-1859) was an American writer, essayist, biographer, and historian, known for his short stories "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." He was one of the first American authors to achieve international recognition. He also served as U.S. Minister to Spain.
