Wilhelm Dilthey (1833-1911) was a German philosopher, historian, sociologist, and psychologist. He is considered one of the main proponents of hermeneutic historicism and the philosophy of life. His work focused on distinguishing the natural sciences from the human sciences, arguing that the latter require a comprehensive method (Verstehen) to interpret the expressions of human life. He significantly influenced the humanities and social sciences.
