William Hickling Prescott

William Hickling Prescott (1796-1859) was an American historian and author, born in Salem, Massachusetts. He is known for his works on Spain under the Catholic Monarchs and the conquest of the Americas. Despite suffering a severe eye injury in his youth that left him almost blind, he wrote extensively, using an amanuensis. His most famous works include History of the Conquest of Mexico and History of the Conquest of Peru.
