Agustín Millares Torres

Agustín Millares Torres (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1826-1896) was a Spanish historian, journalist, humanist, and physician. He is considered a key figure of the 19th century in the Canary Islands due to his research work and his prolific literary and historical output. Among his most notable works is the "Historia General de las Islas Canarias" (General History of the Canary Islands), a monumental work covering the history of the archipelago from antiquity to his time. He also wrote about genealogy, archaeology, and published numerous articles and essays in the press. His legacy is fundamental for the understanding of Canarian history and culture.
