Carmelo Monsalve Bethencourt was a Spanish writer and journalist born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1928 and passed away in the same city in 2008. A law graduate, he developed a prolific journalistic career, collaborating with various media outlets such as "Diario de Las Palmas" and "La Provincia", where he served as editor-in-chief and director. He was also a correspondent for the EFE agency and other national newspapers. As a writer, he cultivated various genres, excelling in essay, biography, and historical novel, with works that often explored Canarian history and culture. He was the official chronicler of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
