Alexander Mackenzie (1764 – 1820) was a Scottish explorer known for his significant expeditions in North America. He was born in Stornoway, Scotland. In 1789, he discovered and descended the Mackenzie River to the Arctic Ocean. In 1793, he completed the first transcontinental crossing of North America north of Mexico, reaching the Pacific Ocean. For his achievements, he was knighted in 1802.
