Eligio Ancona

Eligio Ancona Castillo (1826-1893) was a prominent Mexican novelist, historian, playwright, and politician. He was born in Mérida, Yucatán. He held important public positions, including several terms as governor of Yucatán, magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, and director of the General Archive of the Nation. In his literary career, he is recognized for his historical novels that explore the history of Yucatán and Mexico, with some of his best-known works being "El filibustero" and "Los mártires del Anáhuac."
