Alexander Schmidt

Alexander Schmidt (1816-1887) was a German lexicographer and scholar specializing in Shakespeare. He is known for his "Shakespeare-Lexicon", an exhaustive dictionary of Shakespeare's language first published in 1874-1875, which became a fundamental reference work. He held a doctorate in philosophy and worked as a teacher.
