Enrique Pérez Escrich (1829-1897) was a Spanish novelist, playwright, and journalist. He was born in Valencia and died in Madrid. He became popular for his serial novels, which were very successful in the second half of the 19th century, characterized by their realism, costumbrismo (local customs), melodramatic style, and a moralizing tone.
