Alexandre Dumas (father) was a 19th-century French novelist and playwright. He was born in Villers-Cotterêts in 1802. He is known for his historical adventure novels such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, which have been translated into numerous languages and adapted for film and television. He was also a prolific writer of plays and newspaper articles. He died in Puys in 1870.
