Alfred Edmund Brehm

Alfred Edmund Brehm was a German zoologist and writer, known for his work "The Life of Animals" (Brehms Tierleben). Born in Rehmda, Thuringia, in 1829, he was the son of the ornithologist Christian Ludwig Brehm as well. From a young age, he showed interest in nature and zoology. He undertook several scientific expeditions through Africa and the Middle East, where he collected specimens and observed the fauna. He was director of the Hamburg Zoological Garden and co-founder of the Berlin Aquarium. His popular science work on zoology was essential in bringing knowledge about the animal kingdom to a wide audience. He died in 1884.
