She was born in Los Angeles, California, and graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before dedicating herself to fiction, she worked as a freelance journalist. Her most well-known work is "If I Stay," published in 2009, which was a New York Times best-seller and was adapted into a film in 2014. She wrote a sequel titled "Where She Went." Her books often explore themes such as love, loss, and difficult decisions. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
