Franz Martin Winterer (1838-1919) was an Alsatian Catholic priest, writer, and politician. He studied theology and was ordained a priest in 1862. He served as a vicar and parish priest in various localities in Alsace. He was a prolific author of religious, historical, and political works, noted for his defense of Alsatian culture and identity against Germanization. He was also editor of the newspaper "Der Elsässer". In the political sphere, he was a member of the German Reichstag from 1874 to 1911, where he represented the Centre Party and advocated for the autonomy of Alsace-Lorraine. His work encompasses theology, local history, journalism, and political speeches.
