George Frédéric de Martens

George Frédéric de Martens (1756-1821) was a German jurist and diplomat, professor of law at the University of Göttingen. He is considered one of the founders of modern international law. His best-known work is "Précis du droit des gens moderne de l'Europe fondé sur les traités et l'usage" (1789), which became a reference text. He was also a compiler of important collections of treaties.
