Gerardo Caetano is a Uruguayan historian and political scientist, born in Montevideo in 1958. He has been recognized for his profound research and analysis on the political and social history of Uruguay and Latin America. He is a full professor of Political History at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the Republic and has served as director of the Department of History and the Political History Program. His works address topics such as democratic transitions, political parties, historical memory, and human rights. He has published numerous books and articles, and is an influential figure in the intellectual and political debate in his country.
