Govert Westerveld (born in 1957) is a Dutch author, researcher, and chess historian. He is known for his extensive work on the history of chess, especially in Spain, and its connection to shatranj and medieval chess. He has published numerous books and articles, many of them focused on historical chess figures such as Lucena and Ruy López de Segura, analyzing and translating ancient texts.
